Sports Grant

Since September 2013, schools have received additional funding through the Sports Premium to enhance the profile and quality of sport and physical activity. At Burnt Oak, this funding is primarily used to employ two specialist PE teachers, ensuring high-quality teaching and the development of fundamental skills for all pupils, regardless of ability.

Through a structured and progressive PE curriculum, pupils develop key motor skills, balance, coordination, and confidence, fostering a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. The curriculum offers a broad range of activities, including athletics, games, dance, and a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs, alongside participation in events such as the Pioneer Academy Sports Day.

The impact of this funding is significant. The quality of PE teaching is consistently high, leading to improved pupil outcomes and increased participation in clubs. The school has also been awarded the Gold School Games Mark in recognition of its commitment to sport.

Swimming

Swimming provision is carefully planned, with lessons delivered in Year 3 (Summer Term) and Year 5 (Autumn Term), alongside additional support for Year 6 pupils who have not yet met the expected standard. By the end of Key Stage 2 in 2025, 99% of pupils can swim 25 metres confidently, use a range of strokes effectively, and perform safe self-rescue. Overall, the school’s investment in swimming and water safety has had a strong positive impact on pupil attainment.
